Air Pollution

This Tuesday, Kolkata was officially the world’s worst polluted city. Sad state of affairs, but we will reap what we sow. Continuously trying to improve things – here’s an example.

Open air burning of trash is a common sight in the city – result of unawareness, laziness, etc. At a community level, bring awareness about it.

At a personal level, start using respirator masks. I use 3M Particulate Respirators – available online. Feel free to take from my stock at home. I retail from the best 3M distributor in the city.

Please help!

Ode to Air

Air, air, it’s everywhere,
In your face and in your hair
It can be a gentle breeze,
It leaves your mouth when you sneeze,
It can be a strong gust,
It can carry debris or dust.
So when you feel air blow by,
Just remember to say “hi.”

Air, air, in the sky,
It can carry a plane or a fly,
Sweet air, cradle of life,
Protect it, without any strife.
You inhale it,
You exhale it,
If of air we were deprived,
None of us would have survived

Air, air it’s so great,
About that there is no debate,
You don’t have to be quiet,
Feel free to start a riot.
Let’s work on the solution,
To curb the air pollution,
And make sure no one protests,
That air needs our best.

The Last Letter

(From left) the late Aditya Birla, Kumar Mangalam Birla, the late G.D. Birla, Basant Birla. Very few people have had the wisdom to summarize their life experiences into a single-page.

Dear Basant, I advise you to read this letter when you become an adult and are older. I am writing from my experience. To be born as a human being in this world is a rare opportunity – this is true. One who abuses one’s body, having obtained the human form, is only an animal. You have received a lot of wealth and good resources. If these are used to serve others, then, of course, such resources will become useful. If not, they will become a devil”s weapon. Pay heed to these principle : 1 ) Never use wealth for luxury and cheap pleasure. Ravana had indulged in luxury and promiscuity; King Janaka had rendered service. Wealth is never eternal; therefore, so long as it lasts, use it for serving others. Use the least possible amount for yourself, the rest you should spend to alleviate the sorrows of suffering ones. 2 ) Wealth is power. Intoxicated by such power, one may act unjustly towards another – you must be careful about this. 3 ) Do leave this advice for your children; if they lead a life of comfort and luxury, then they would be committing sin and destroying our business activities. You must not bequeath wealth to such spoilt brats. Before it can reach them, distribute it to poor. You have to realise that you are the trustee of such wealth, and we brothers have generated this wealth in the hope that you will put it to good uses. 4) Remember always that you hold wealth on behalf of the common citizens. You cannot use it for your selfish ends. 5 ) Never forget God. He gives right understanding. 6 ) Keep your senses under control, otherwise they will drown you. 7 ) Physical exercise must be done regularly. 8 ) Control your consumption of food. Those who eat to please the palate die early and cannot work enough. Ghanshyam Das Birla.

Dog – Man’s Best Friend

The statement that Dog is man’s best friend was first recorded as being made by Frederick, King of Prussia in 1789. Why do we call them man’s best friend? We can learn so many things from a dog’s behavior, personality, demeanor, resiliency, and most importantly, the willingness to provide their family members with unconditional love, loyalty, and companionship down to their very last breath. In Homer’s Odyssey (c. 8th century BC), upon Odysseus’ return, his beloved dog Argos is the only individual to recognize him. Perhaps they are Gods in disguise?

It is said that giving up all their belongings and ties, the Pandavas, accompanied by a dog, made their final journey of pilgrimage to the Himalayas. Yudhishthira was the only one to reach the mountain peak in his mortal body, because he was unblemished by sin or untruth. On reaching the top, Indra asked him to abandon the dog before entering the Heaven. But Yudhishthira refused to do so, citing the dog’s unflinching loyalty as a reason. It turned out that the dog was his god-father, Dharma. The incident symbolized that dharma follows you till the end.

There are dog-friendly temples, and I visited one for the first time today. Trying to create more dog-friendly parks. Please donate!

Bengal Organ Donation Society

I had recently pledged all my organs with the guidance of the Bengal Organ Donation Society. To exponentially increase awareness in Kolkata, the above image can be used as a guiding theme for upcoming Durga Puja Pandals in the city.

Organ donation means that an organ is transferred from the body of one person to that of another person. This is done by a process called transplantation. The quality of life of the person who receives the organ is improved to various degrees. It is important for people to be aware that donating an organ or tissue changes the life of a fellow human being.

India has a fairly well developed corneal donation programme; however, donation after brain death has been relatively slow to take off. Most of the transplants done in India are living related or unrelated transplants. To curb organ commerce and promote donation after brain death the government enacted a law called “The Transplantation of Human Organs Act” in 1994 that brought about a significant change in the organ donation and transplantation scene in India.

All major religions accept organ donation in at least some form on either utilitarian grounds (i.e., because of its life-saving capabilities) or deontological grounds (e.g., the right of an individual believer to make his or her own decision).

Sant Kabir Ji Story – Sin Of Donation

Once upon a time a beggar came to Sant Kabir Ji and asked for some food. The beggar was hungry for a long time. Then Sant Kabir ji was knitting clothes. Sant Kabir Ji told the beggar that he didn’t had anything to eat at this time. And neither is the money. Then Kabir Ji gave this beggar a wool sphere and said, ”This time I have this. Sell it and eat something.”

The beggar went away. There was a pool on the way, There were a lot of fishes in the lake. The beggar made a net of that wool and threw the net of wool into the pond to catch the fishes. Because it was a thread of saint Kabir ji, That’s why many fishes came in that trap. The beggar caught the fishes all day. In the evening, he sold all the fishes.

That beggars do the same everyday He slowly got many traps. And in a few years he became a very rich man.

One day the beggar thought that Sant Kabir should be seen. Beggar had gold and silver and good clothes and offered the same to Sant Kabir Ji.

Kabir ji did not recognize him at first. But when the beggar told everything. So Kabir jested very much and told the beggar that whatever fish you have killed, I will take half of all the sin. Because if I do not even give you that thread, then you do not catch fish. Kabir ji gave all his stuff and gave a sermon to do good work.

We should also give thought to donate because if our donation is utilized in a wrong way, then we will have to bear the consequences too.

Poot Sapoot To Kyon Dhan Sanchay Poot Kapoot To Kyon Dhan Sanchay

If your son is able, why save money for his future, and if he is an idiot, why save money for his future. This essentially means that if your son is an ideal son, you need not save money for he will fend for himself, and on the contrary, if your son is an idiot, why save money when you know he is going to waste it all.
