Khawaja Mere Khawaja

This song is sung in the praise of a one of the most famous and renowned Sufi Saint of the Chisti Order, ‘Moinuddin Chishti’. ‘Moinuddin’ means the ‘Assister of Religion’ or the person who reinstates faith. He is also known as ‘Gharib Nawaz’ which means ‘Benefactor of the Poor/Needy’. His shrine(resting place) known as Dargah Sharif is in Ajmer, a city in Western India. It is considered to be very holy and a sacred place for Muslims, but it’s visited by people from all religions. The term ‘Khwaja’ is given to a ‘Master/Leader’ or a person of distinction.  So, in this song, the Sufi Saint Moinuddin Chishti is called ‘Khwaja’.
